Recipe: Vegan Chai
1 cup – this is an easy-to-remember-recipe that can be multiplied out according to the number of tea-drinkers.
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1/8 teaspoon cardamom pods, powdered
1-2 star anise (optional)
1 (or more) teaspoon sweetener
3/4 cup rice milk
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tea leaves of choice
1 tablespoon coconut milk or cream
pinch of salt
In a small saucepan, heat the first six ingredients till they reach a boil. Remove from heat, add remaining ingredients and leave covered, to steep, about 5 minutes. Serve with an extra dash of cold rice milk if desired.
